After years of terror, fear, and death had befallen Hrothgar's people, the Geats, a young hero emerged to save them. Beowulf was stronger than any other, his power and strength even frightening the great monster Grendel, whose presence was the cause of the Geat's destruction. Beowulf deafeated the monster Grendel with his bare hands alone, and as Grendel crawled away, his death inevitable, the Geats thought they had finally obtained peace. Little did they know, Grendels wicked, nasty monster mother was now out for revenge. When she came to get them, however, Beowulf once again saved Hrothgar's people. His next task, on the other hand, proved more difficult. He faced a dragon, this time knowing he needed weapons. His life ended at the same time as his enemy's, he gave his life to protect the Geats and all others from this terror and he was remembered as a hero indeed.
